Island Yoga, set on the beautiful island of Koh Yao Noi, Thailand, has been established for over ten years and is constantly evolving. Their latest is the expansion of the health food cafe, as well as renovations and upgrades to many of the rooms. This means that the world renowned and affordable yoga retreat is now better than ever.
Koh Yao Noi is unlike the typical tourist-trodden islands of Thailand. Only 30 minutes away from Phuket by boat, it is easy to reach but largely undiscovered by tourism and feels like worlds away from civilisation. It was founded over ten years ago by yoga teacher and rock climber David Sharpe, who was instantly drawn to the area; ‘I was climbing here, and I fell completely in love with Koh Yao Noi and the people and the culture’ he states. It is this beauty and the smiling locals that makes Koh Yao Noi and Island Yoga such a beloved spot.
Over the ten years that Island Yoga has been in operation, it has constantly evolved and expanded its facilities, with the latest additions sure to bring even more comfort and enjoyment to guests.
The Sabaidee Yogi Cafe which opened in July of 2019 has already expanded, and now offers panoramic views of the beautiful Phang Nga Bay. The cafe offers delicious vegetarian health food with a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern twist and is already a guest favourite. It is the ideal place to fuel your body before yoga or replenish it afterwards. The expanded seating area is also a great place to unwind and escape the tropical Southern Thailand heat, connect with other guests or read one of the many books that Island Yoga has in its spiritual library. ‘The goal is to create community spaces, where people can join together and share’, explains David, and the expanded cafe is exactly this, a breath taking space which invites you to relax and take in the beautiful views.
The cafe isn’t the only upgrade that occurred during the September closure, many of the rooms underwent renovations to ensure that you feel right at home. With many options to suit travellers of every budget; from deluxe bungalows with air conditioning to mixed and female only dormitories, the newly refurbished rooms provide all the comforts of home whilst retaining traditional Thai style. ‘If you’re looking for a luxurious vacation and want to pamper yourself then that facility is there with our AC bungalows. Our comfort fan bungalows offer the same privacy and facilities without air conditioning or for travellers on a tighter budget we offer mixed and female dormitories or budget rooms.’ highlights David.
The flexibility available at Island Yoga is another thing that sets it apart from other yoga retreats. You can book a two night stay or you can stay for as long as you desire. The only limit on how long you stay is your schedule, and the longer that you stay, the bigger benefit you will get.
With Christmas and New Year just around the corner, now is the perfect time to book yourself a retreat to Island Yoga.
