Yoga Insight
Yoga means
union. It is not only physical asanas, but is a way of
life. Ultimately the practices learned on the yoga mat
become integrated and lived in every moment. At Island
Yoga, we create an environment in which you can explore
the expansion of yoga throughout your entire life. You
will have the opportunity to experience not only Hatha
yoga, but also bhakti, karma, pranayama, raja, and
jnana. Yoga will help you to experience equanimity,
growth, and union of your mind, body and soul. It will
help you to experience yourself as empowered, conscious,
loving, healthy, happy, peaceful and complete.

The Asana Practice
The yoga classes themselves will alternate between
Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa. We cover foundation and
classic yoga postures, asana combinations, correct
alignment, pranayama techniques and meditation
instruction. There will be a strong focus on the flow of
energy, awareness and heart opening.
Some of the classes will incorporate a Vinyasa flow
style of yoga. This is a combination of asanas (poses)
where synchronization of breath, balance and focused
awareness produce a graceful rhythmic flowing yoga.
Emphasizing the body-mind connection, the physical
asanas maintain a healthy body through improved
flexibility, stamina and strength, while pranayama, the
yogic art of breathing, balances the emotions, increases
energy and calms the mind.
