I had a fantastic week... I loved experiencing the teacher’s different styles/skills. It kept the workshops fresh and interesting… I feel the workshops have broadened my understanding of what yoga is a part of, and you have introduced me to ways of developing my practice on and off the mat.
Apart from all classes, the “yoga life” was also incredible…
It was all a wonderful experience and I will never forget it.

Roll & Release: The art of fascia unwinding

Why let stress bind us when simply we can move this overcharged energy? This workshop is a journey into deeper waters of healing through roll and release. Roll and release yoga is a pathway to healing, flexibility, letting go of tensions and pains and even letting go of emotional energy that causes a lot of suffering.

 

We use ‘props’ like tennis balls and blocks to massage and manipulate the myofascial tissue, which is a membrane that holds our energy and emotional body. The fascia is a fibrous connective tissue that is present throughout our entire body, not just the muscles. It’s through this connective tissue that energy flows and stress and tensions can create blockages and stiffness. Often through emotional traumas, physical injuries, overuse of muscles, lack of movement and just daily life stress, this membrane can hold tensions and block our vital energy.
Roll and release is a form of self-massage with the capacity of resetting our emotional and physical body and release stress related patterns.

What to expect: In this workshop you will learn what fascia is and how it gets affected by physical and emotional stress. You will learn how to liberate yourself from tensions created, improve the mobility of the joints and your flexibility in general. Through breathing exercises and gentle asana’s you will experience a deep relaxed state of mind, as the nervous system will start to unwind completely. A welcome gift of tools to take home to release tensions in your body at any time you want!

Restorative yoga workshop: Release-Rest-Relax-Restore-Rejuvenate. (2hrs)

Restorative Yoga is a passive and deeply therapeutic form of yoga that provides deep rest for tired bodies, relaxation for busy minds and rejuvenation for the entire nervous system by way of strategically positioning props to support and nourish the body down to the cellular level.
Different from more active styles, we will concentrate on surrendering our weight to supports and softening into the stretches. This helps us to relieve the effects of negative stress encountered in daily life, and can be highly beneficial in times of fatigue, illness, and emotional strain. Our focus will be to calm and nurture ourselves on all levels during the class, ending in a deep relaxed state through Yoga Nidra.

 

Participants go deep as they are guided with Pranayama (breathing techniques) to help with the detoxification process and be washed with the resonance of music/singing bowls that helps ground you into deep meditative state and shift subtle energies of the energetic body.
This workshop will ground you through mindful and somatic bodywork and feel like a home-coming to yourself for your Self.
Learn how to fly and get upside down! Arm balance workshop

Many students struggle with arm balances because they think they are not strong enough! Breaking these postures down and beginning to understand the techniques for getting in and out of them is how we make progress. We will learn about the foundations of arm balances, the connection to the core, embrace our fear and learn to lift off. We will prepare the body using a dynamically sequenced Vinyasa Flow followed by lots of time to play around! There will be many options for everyone to try in case you’re not quite ready to fly yet.

 

 

This workshop is also an invitation to go deeper and explore where in life you could possible use that extra courage and vigor in order to take another turn into your life, to overcome your fears or perhaps chase the life of your dreams and passions!
Once we start to know who we are, what we want in life, we need to develop strength and courage to start taking actions, decisions, steps towards our purpose.
Here our yoga practice comes in, on the mat we can develop the qualities we need in life, to be strong, determined, focused, dedicated, and brave to overcome doubts, worries, fears, judgments. Doing new things, getting out of your comfort zone, going beyond our edge, exploring our boundaries and tapping into your physical power are empowering and transformative. Arm balances and inversions are known for their invigorating and strengthening benefits. Getting upside down does open a new and fun perspective anyway! :)

 

Pranayama workshops

Pranayama is often translated as ‘Breath control’. Although this interpretation may seem correct, it doesn’t convey the full meaning of the term. ‘Prana’ means vital energy or life force. ‘Ayama’ means extension, expansion, length, or restrain. So in pranayama we extend the breath, by which we influence the flow of vital energy into the more subtle channels (nadi’s) of the body and mind. Pranayama is part of the yoga philosophy as well as the Ayurvedic medicine. By expanding the breath, the respiratory, digestive, hormonal, circulatory, nervous, lymphatic, endocrine, reproductive systems…are getting.

cleansed, imbalances are restored and health gets improved. At the same time, the mind draws more inward and quiets, opening a connection with your true essence and higher consciousness.

These weekly workshops will provide instruction and practice of pranayama techniques that you can integrate into your current practice.

Rene Solari Yoga Photography
February 1st – April 30th 2017

Rene will be offering yoga photos shoots for Island Yoga students February through April 2017.
 I have had a love for photography since early childhood, playing around with Kodak instamatics and disc cameras. After my in Ba honours degree in Photography I turned professional, focusing on editorial photography. I then embarked on a 6 year exploration of photography which took me all around the world. Whilst travelling in Asia, I was introduced to Vipassana meditation, Buddhism and Ashtanga Yoga.

This opened new perspectives as I realized that photography had much in common with my meditation and yoga practices. Just as clear focus or drishti combined with breath work are key elements in yoga, so the quality of my photographic work is also based on aligning with my inner focus and breath.

I love to work with natural light and nature elements telling a little story about the uniqueness and personality of my subjects. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced yoga practitioner, the tranquility and beautiful scenery of Koh Yai Noi will serve as a poetic backdrop to capture precious personal memories of your stay on this magical island.
We will create an unobtrusive photo shoot in order to capture the spirit and energy of your story here with us, memories to treasure and take back home with you.
